Phase 4 easing on June 15 but foreigners not allowed in yet

WHILE confirming that phase 4 easing of the coronavirus measure will start on June 15 the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) stated that it has not yet considered 15-day trial lifting of the curfew but this issue would be raised for discussion by the full panel on Friday, INN News reported this afternoon (June 10).

Dr Taweesilp Visanuyothin, CCSA’s spokesman, said that the small committee has not discussed allowing foreigners to again come into Thailand but this issue would also be raised at the Friday meeting. The first group to be allowed in would be foreigners working in Thailand.

The travel bubble concept is being considered with this being opening the country to tourism only from those countries that have controlled Covid-19 pandemic, he said.

However bilateral relations also weigh on this issue because some people would ask why citizens of certain countries are allowed in and not those from the others.

Dr Taweesilp Visanuyothin also touched on news spreading of 15-day trial lifting of the curfew, mentioning that the small panel had not discussed it as it had other issues related to phase 4 relaxing to focus on. However he expects this to be raised at the full committee meeting on Friday.

He added that pubs, bars and karaoke lounges have not been allowed to reopen yet because they come under high risk category due to the danger of cluster infection as happened in Thonglor area. This closure is being maintained even though they do in fact help drive the economy.

Dr Taweesilp thanked the public for helping reduce infection within the country with no internal cases reported for 16 days now.

However everyone is urged to not slip up and maintain this status in order the spur the economy and live without fear of this virus.
