ESCAPING with only slight injuries were a taxi driver and his woman passenger after a successful manoeuvre to dodge a big log lying in the middle of the road led to the vehicle plunging head on into a large concrete water tank, PostToday reported this morning (June 25, 2020).
The accident occurred at 5.45 a.m. on Chaeng Wattana road where the Khae Rai to Minburi pink railway line is being constructed. The exact spot is the outbound side of this road near Muang Thong Thani and opposite the Administrative Court.
When police from Thung Song Hong station arrived they saw a yellow taxi with the front totally smashed after having pierced some steel road in the four-metre-deep water tank being built to store runoffs within the pink rail line project site.
Upon being questioned the taxi driver, Mr Khnong (surname withheld), 35, said before the accident he had picked up a woman passenger at Mor Chit bus terminal to drop off at Soi Chaeng Wattana 14. As he was driving along the middle lane of the outbound side of Chaeng Wattana road he suddenly saw a big log lying on the road.
He then quickly swerved to avoid hitting the log but the vehicle then became unstable and careened off the road, through the barrier and plunged head on into the large tank.
He added that he did tell the passenger they were about to have an accident and it was very lucky that both them escaped with only slight injuries.
Police have called for a crane to lift the taxi out of the tank.
