WHILE one Thai man returning from India was found to be infected with Covid-19 over the past 24 hours till morning (Sept. 7) and he has been placed in state quarantine, South Korea too has found that one of their nationals returning from Thailand has tested positive for this disease, Thai Rath newspaper reported.
The addition of the new case of Thai returnee takes the Thai total to 3,445 cases with the death toll staying stationary at 58.
However Dr. Walairat Chaiyafoo, director of the Bureau of Epidemiology, Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health, confirmed that South Korea sent word about a 50-year-old man having been found to be infected with coronavirus.
The Korean man arrived at Incheon International Airport from Thailand on Friday Sept. 4 and tested positive for the disease on the same day. Test results confirmed his infection the next day.
Meanwhile a team of volunteers and police in Mae Sot district found five Chinese men hiding in dense forest during their patrol of the area yesterday.
The Chinese aliens told police they were all from the Mainland and had swum across Moei river to both escape the second wave of the pandemic in Myanmar and the hard work they had to do at a casino there.
They were taken to the police station and charged with illegal entry and violating the Communicable Disease Act.
Myanmar reported 166 new infections and one death on September 6, taking the totals to 1,419 infections and eight deaths, Aseanbriefing.com reported.
Meanwhile national police chief Pol. Gen. Chakthip Chaijinda ordered his deputy, Pol. Gen. Suwat Jangyodsuk, and assistants, Pol. Lt. Gen. Damrongsak Kittipraphat and Pol. Lt. Gen. Piya Utayo, to reiterate to the border patrol and provincial police at border provinces to coordinate with the military, provincial administrators and Public Health officials in strictly implementing measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
They were told to beef up border security to prevent aliens from crossing over to Thailand via official checkpoints, trading and other posts as well as natural channels, and also investigate and track down the agents helping these migrant workers from slipping across the border.
