THERE is a coronavirus alert at the parliament this morning (Sept. 13) after Senator Apichart Todilokwet got infected despite having received two AstraZeneca jabs, Sanook.com said.
Dr. Jet Siratharanon, a senator and chairman of the committee to handle the coronavirus pandemic situation, said a detailed timeline of Apichart’s activities is being tracked. However, as yet it is not known where he contracted the infection.
The infected senator attended Senate meetings on September 6-8 and then a joint House/Senate meeting on September 10 when a constitutional amendment bid to increase the number of constituency-based MPs and decrease that of party-listed MPs was approved.
Parliament officials said after the joint House/Senate meeting the meeting chamber, Prime Minister’s and Parliament President’s rooms and the restaurant were disinfected the next day, Sept. 11, as is the normal procedure.
All MPs and senators who had close contact with Apichart were told to undergo an antigen test at Parliament.
Meanwhile the Public Health Ministry said the daily Covid count dropped to 12,583 cases and 132 deaths this morning (Sept. 13).
Of the new batch of cases 12,420 were among the general public and 163 in prisons and detention centres.
The cumulative confirmed total since April 1 has now reached 1,365,893 and since the start of the pandemic 1,394,756.
Today’s 132 fatalities took the death toll to 14,485.
Another 16,304 patients have been cured taking total recoveries since April to 1,220,732 while 132,113 are still undergoing treatment.
