Cabinet nod for Bangkok governor and Pattaya City mayor elections

THE Cabinet gave the green light for holding Bangkok governor and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration council as well as Pattaya City mayor and Pattaya City council elections today (Mar. 8) with the Election Commission to name the date and this is expected to be Sunday May 29, 2022, Matichon newspaper said.

The Cabinet approved the Interior Ministry proposal that the dates for the two local elections be set with the task falling on the Election Commission to do so according to the Local Administrators Act, B.E. 2562 (2019).

The Election Commission will be officially announcing the election date soon after having tentatively set it for Sunday May 29.

The last time Bangkok  gubernatorial election took place was in 2013 as all elections were suspended after the 2014 coup.

The current Bangkok governor, Pol. Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, was appointed to the post by the National Council for Peace and Order in 2016. Although the governor’s term is usually four years, the election of a new governor has been postponed several times.
