WHILE today’s (Mar. 10) confirmed Covid cases stand at 22,984, there were another 49,494 people who tested positive via ATK and are awaiting confirmation of infection with this taking the total to 72,478 with the daily fatalities too climbing to 74, Matichon newspaper said.
Of the confirmed cases 22,937 were domestic while 47 foreign arrivals tested positive.
This raised the cumulative confirmed total since Jan. 1 to 888,422.
Another 24,161 patients were cured taking total recoveries since the beginning of the year to 699,517 while 220,334 are still undergoing treatment.
Of the 49,494 people who tested positive via ATK 420 are in serious condition requiring oxygen while 1,238 are suffering from pneumonia.
Today’s ten worst-hit provinces are Bangkok, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Chonburi. Samut Prakan, Nonthaburi, Samut Sakhon, Ayutthaya, Phuket, Chachoengsao, Pathum Thani and Buriram.
Meanwhile Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha today ordered the Security Emergency Situation Action Centre to rope in soldiers to help answer the Covid hotline number 1330 because of the large number of incoming calls.
Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, a spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, said this step was taken to expedite public access to medical treatment and alleviate their suffering.
The Security Emergency Situation Action Centre will be adding another 200 operators to the National Health Security Office’s Covid hotline number 1330 with 40 being at the Royal Thai Army Command headquarters, 80 Royal Thai Army, 40 Royal Thai Navy and 40 Royal Thai Air Force.
