Thailand donates 2m baht worth of humanitarian aid to Ukraine

THAILAND is providing two million baht worth of humanitarian aid to Ukraine after the Ukrainian embassy requested assistance as the war has led to many deaths and injuries with the infrastructure also severely damaged, Amarin TV said this evening (Mar. 10).

Mr. Thani Saengrat, head of the Foreign Ministry’s Department of Information and its spokesman, said the funds will be sent to the Royal Thai embassy in Warsaw to purchase aid and distribute it to people in the area through the Ukrainian Red Cross or other appropriate channel.

This is the second time Thailand has provided aid to Ukraine with the first time being in 2019 when 1 million baht worth of humanitarian and medical supplies were given for internally displaced people in the eastern part of the country.

Meanwhile 230 out of 256 Thais in Ukraine have been evacuated with the remaining 26 choosing to remain there but they have been advised to leave with the Thai embassy always ready to help.

Most of those evacuated were flown back on seven commercial flights but some chose to return on their own.

The Thai Foreign Ministry also helped evacuate people from neighbouring countries, mainly from the Philippines and Singapore.

Those who fled Ukraine did so via two routes: crossing from Lviv to Poland or Odessa to Romania.
