FORMER MP Mingkwan Sangsuwan today (June 8) announced the setting up of Thai Opportunity Party with himself being top leader of the brand-new party and with intent to run for head of a post-election government.
The former MP of New Economics Party who earlier resigned as lawmaker in the middle of the House chamber in protest of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s allegedly mishandling of economic issues and the pandemic situation confirmed his Thai Opportunity Party will focus on ways and means to solve the people’s hand-to-mouth hardships and the country’s economic problems.
Mingkwan said he himself will not only become top leader of Thai Opportunity Party but will be named partisan candidate for head of a post-election government.
Mingkwan declined to confirm whether any current MPs or other prominent figures might probably join his camp in foreseeable future or contest the next general election under its tickets.
Today’s setting up of Mingkwan’s yet little-known party which is yet to be officially registered apparently dampened speculation that the former deputy premier/former commerce minister would join the rank and file of Thai Economic Party very shortly.
In Friday’s caucus, Thai Economic MP Thammanat Prompao of Payao will likely be named top leader of Thai Economic Party in lieu of Wit Thephasadin na Ayudhya who has earlier resigned from the post whereas MP Pai Lik of Kampangpet will likely be named secretary-general of the “independent” party in place of Thammanat.
