VARAWUT SILPA-ARCHA has become top leader of the Chart Thai Pattana Party in place of his own sister, Kanchana, who has earlier resigned.
In today’s (Oct. 3) general caucus of the Chart Thai Pattana Party, Varawut, who concurrently performs as natural resources & environment minister, was unanimously named top leader of the fourth largest coalition partner among a total of 39 members of the party’s executive board.
Deputy Agriculture & Cooperatives Minister Prapat Bhotasuton has retained the post of secretary-general of the Chart Thai Pattana Party.
Varawut is the only son of the late prime minister/former Chart Thai party leader Banharn Silpa-archa who had turned his native Supanburi into a constituent stronghold over the past decades.
In the 2019 election, Supanburi was the only province of the country where Chart Thai Pattana candidates were elected MPs for all of its four constituencies.
Varawut’s party currently has 12 MPs including Prapat and himself, compared to several dozens in the time of his father.
