THE Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) today (Nov 12) denied five private companies had agreed to sponsor the broadcast of Fifa World Cup 2022 being held in Qatar from Nov. 20 to Dec. 18 at 200 million baht each for a total of 1 billion baht that remains to be raised out of 1.6 billion baht needed to buy the licence, Matichon newspaper said.
The National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) has approved a 600 million baht budget for SAT to acquire the broadcasting licence with SAT Governor Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee now accelerating private sector participation.
He confirmed that the private sector had yet to come up with the huge amount of money that remained to be raised.
Kobsak said yesterday that SAT is open to all proposals from the private sector for sponsoring the broadcast of the World Cup 2022 in Thailand, according to Siamsport
He is also waiting for an answer from Fifa after requesting a more reasonable price for the broadcasting rights of 1 billion or 1.3 billion baht.
He might ask Fifa to sell a reduced package with 32 matches broadcast or just the last 16 matches.
