Police set up centre to suppress World Cup gambling

 

WITH the Fifa World Cup football tournament kicking off today (Nov. 20) police are on their toes to catch illegal gamblers having set up a suppression centre through the duration till Dec. 18, Amarin TV said.

With all 64 matches of the 22nd World Cup held in Qatar being broadcast live on free TV and other media it is expected that football fans will be gambling on the results which is illegal under Thai law.

Aside from setting up the centre for prevention and suppression of illegal football gambling police are also taking the following steps:

– Both uniformed policemen and those in plainclothes will be inspecting entertainment venues, hotels and game and internet shops to ensure no gambling is taking place;

– Police will be monitoring the internet and social media for violations;

– All cases will be investigated in detail with strict action taken against offenders.

Police urged the public to look after their health in watching these matches with those who have clues on gambling taking place to report advised to call  191 or  1599.
