DEPUTY EDUCATION Minister Kanokwan Wilawan who is currently suspended from performing her ministerial duties might possibly be deprived of her cabinet seat and banned from politics due to a national park encroachment case filed against her.
The National Anti-Corruption Commission today (Dec.9) petitioned the Supreme Court to consider deposing Kanokwan of the seat of deputy education minister and prohibiting her from contesting elections or casting electoral votes at any level of politics for a maximum of 10 years due to her possession of a parcel of land which allegedly encroaches upon Khao Yai national park in Nern Hom subdistrict of Prachinburi, the constituency which she used to represent as MP.
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court had suspended the ex-Bhumjaithai MP from performing as deputy education minister pending a final court ruling on the illegal encroachment charges dating back over the last two decades.
Kanokwan has been accused of having illegally obtained a title deed for the plot of land which is allegedly part of the national park alongside her father, namely Suntorn Wilawan, a former eight-time MP of Prachinburi, among others.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Supreme Court will take into account the anti-graft agency’s sought-after penalties for the woman politician.
