A THAI woman who is now an American citizen and is wanted in Michigan for a hit-and-run that killed a Michigan State University student on Jan. 1, 2023 said after being apprehended that she is ready to return to US to face legal consequences, Matichon newspaper said today (Feb. 15).
Mrs. Tubtim “Sue” Howson was driving a 2016 BMW 320i to go to work at a grocery store when she fatally struck the student, Ben Kable, at around 5.49 a.m.
Deputies say Kable was “in the roadway” when he was hit by the BMW, but it’s not clear if he was “standing or walking in the roadway when he was hit.” Kable was home for holiday break when he was killed, according to court documents.
Howson stopped the car for a short period of time before fleeing the scene, officials said
National Pol. Gen. Damrongsak Kittipraphat had ordered Deputy National Police Chief Pol. Lt. Gen. Surachate Hakparn to track her down.
Investigation showed that she returned to Thailand on Jan. 5, 2023 and went to stay in the Chonburi area. On Feb. 10 when news spread that Michigan authorities and the FBI are seeking extradition she moved to Ratchaburi province.
The police team found her there and she later told them that she had fled to Thailand because she was in a state of shock after the fatal accident and is now willing to cooperate with police and go back to US for face legal action.
Pol. Gen. Surachet said Mrs Tabthim was sorry for what had happened and police will now coordinate with the US authorities to extradite her.
