TWO female activists who held a severe hunger strike for 53 days ending it on March 11 said in a Facebook post that they are leaving Thammasat Hospital today (Mar. 23) but are still sticking to their demands and intend to ask political parties about their viewpoint, Matichon said.
One of the two young activists, Tantawan “Tawan” Tuatulanond, said she and Orawan “Bam” Pupong want to thank those who encouraged them and showed concern and that after undergoing treatment for a long time they have been discharged today. They had refused to drink water or eat food provided in jail or at the hospital during their sustained protest.
However they said their fight is not over and they still firmly insist that their demands be met with these being immediate, unconditional release of all political detainees, including themselves with the two of them facing lese majeste charges, reform of the judicial process and abolition of the lese majeste law, also known as Criminal Code Section 112.
Their demands have been endorsed by many university lecturers, university students and human rights activists
Tantawan added in her post that as the country has entered election season they will be asking political parties what they think about their demands.
“Of course not just the dictatorial parties but all parties including those who say they are democratic,” she wrote.
