Chalermchai not running in May 14 general election

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

DEMOCRAT SECRETARY-GENERAL Chalermchai Sri-on is not contesting the May 14 general election for personal reasons, confirmed deputy Democrat leader Ong-art Khlampaiboon today (Mar.29).

Chalermchai who concurrently acts as agriculture & cooperatives minister is not running either in party-listed mode or constituency-based mode under the Democrat tickets though he is still holding onto the post of secretary-general of the third-largest coalition partner, Ong-art said.

Chalermchai, who used to represent Prachuap Khiri Khan as MP over the last decade, has decided to opt out of the upcoming election for personal reasons yet unknown to the party’s rank and file, according to the deputy party leader.

In the 2019 general election, his constituency in the western province was won by a Pheu Thai contestant.

The Democrat has appeared to be the only major party contesting the nationwide election without the No.2 figure in the race whilst Democrat leader-cum-caretaker deputy prime minister Jurin Laksanavisit is running as sole partisan candidate for prime minister.
