First day of MP registration in Bangkok ends without a hitch

THE first day of the registration of electoral contestants running for constituency-mode parliamentary seats in Bangkok proceeded without any complaints this morning (Apr. 3) but there was a traffic congestion problem in the area due to a shortage of policemen directing the flow, Amarin TV said.

Mr. Khachit Chatchawanich, permanent secretary of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), said officials arrived at Bangkok Youth Centre in Din Daeng district as early as 4 a.m. to start accepting applications from 5 a.m.

A lot of people had queued to go through the procedure leading to a big crowd in front of the building with there being two document checking points. After 7 a.m. the constituency candidates were allowed to enter the hall.

He added that the Election Commission will be advised that document checking should likewise start at 5 a.m. in future elections.

All applicants had properly prepared their documents with no errors found but one or two of them took their papers back as they changed their mind.

There were around 13-15 applicants in each of Bangkok’s 33 districts and no complaints were filed. The Election Commission will be summarising the result.

Tomorrow is the first day for candidates standing in the party-listed mode to submit their application with this taking place at Bangkok Metropolitan City Hall Two and BMA is responsible for the procedure.
