MOVE FORWARD LEADER Pita Limjaroenrat said today (May 31) Move Forward MP-designate Sirikanya Tansakul has been so far considered the “most suitable” person for the post of finance minister among all others.
Pita said he has worked with Sirikanya, a deputy Move Forward leader and head of the largest party’s economic team, during the last four years and strongly recommended that she will be the most suitable for the finance portfolio in a Move Forward-led government.
Pita admitted that some people may not welcome the female MP-designate as a top favourite for finance minister since they may not have known much about her ability to deal with the country’s financial and treasury matters.
Sirikanya who had earlier worked for Thailand Development Research Institute and chaired the House Committee on Economic Development is largely expected to be instrumental in the Move Forward-planned application of the zero-based budgeting as opposed to the traditional, historically-related budgeting.
Meanwhile, talks over the allocation of cabinet portfolios except for that of finance are still going on amongst eight coalition partners and will be finished off within next month, according to Move Forward secretary-general Chaithawat Tulathon.
Pita has earlier insisted that the portfolios be primarily allocated on account of partisan campaign policies rather than individual preferences.
