Protesters shape up ‘Khor Khwai’ to curse at anti-consensus senators, parties

HUNDREDS OF PROTESTERS tonight (July 23) assembled to literally express a Thai swear word in the middle of a Bangkok street against those who may have denied the majority voters’ consensus manifested in the May 14 election.

The demonstrators, many of whom stood under umbrellas in a drizzle near Asoke intersection off Sukhumvit road, literally stood still side by side to shape up a huge Khor Khwai, the Thai alphabet which is generally known as an initial for the swear word equivalent to “f**k” in English to curse at most of the unelected senators who had abstained from voting or voted against Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat for prime minister and denied a second chance for him to be named one in recent joint House/Senate meetings.

The human alphabet Khor Khwai was also apparently meant to represent the Thai swear word to curse at military-associated and conservative parties, especially the “Uncles’ Camps”, for allegedly standing in the way of some 25 million voters’ consensus which had turned Pita’s camp into the No.1 largest elected one in the nationwide election.

“Uncles’ Camps” refer to one named the Palang Pracharath headed by Prawit Wongsuwan and the other named the Ruam Thai Sang Chart under de facto party boss/caretaker prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. Both contested the general election as partisan candidates for prime minister, among others.

Political activist Sombat Boonngarm-anong led today’s symbolic street protest where the peaceful demonstrators were loosely surrounded by policemen either in uniform or plainclothes whilst Asoke intersection area was partially sealed off and road traffic went slowly nearby,

The ongoing attempts on the part of the Pheu Thai, currently core of eight coalition partners, which include Pita’s party, to try to set up a coalition government by holding informal talks with the non-coalition, anti-Move Forward parties were vehemently taken to task as leading protesters viewed them as starkly adverse to the pro-Move Forward consensus.
