All entertainment venues prohibited from making very loud noise

ALL ENTERTAINMENT VENUES nationwide are warned to never make very loud noise which might otherwise disturb their neighbourhood or else they could probably be shut down by law, according to Sutthipong Chulcharoen, undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior.

Operators of all entertainment spots throughout the country are officially cautioned to never play music so loud and boisterous that it may ruin public peace in their neighbourhood otherwise they could probably be ordered by the authorities to close for as long as five years, Sutthipong said today (Jan.8).

Operating licences for any entertainment places, including those legally allowed to open until 4 a.m. in Bangkok, Chonburi, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui Island and Phuket, could probably be revoked by law if those venues fail to comply with the Ministry of Interior’s regulations pertaining to events of loud noise.

Provincial Administration Department director-general Ansit Sampantharat will assign the chiefs of all 878 districts nationwide to dutifully see to it that public peace be maintained, especially at night, or else those district officials themselves could possibly be faced with criminal and disciplinary charges, the undersecretary said.

The ministry’s latest measure against noise pollution is being taken in response to earlier complaints filed by villagers in vicinity of a bar named Heaven Rangsit in Khlong Luang area of Pathum Thani where music was allegedly too loud and nearly 500 underaged customers were found at the time of a recent raid by the authorities.

In addition to the impermissibly loud noise, all entertainment venues are legally prohibited from receiving adolescents aged under 20 years or allowing any customers to use drugs or carry weapons.
