PRIME MINISTER Srettha Thavisin posted a message while attending the World Economic Forum 2024 at Davos, Switzerland, taking place during Jan. 15-19, that the Indian multinational conglomerate Adani Group is interested in the Land Bridge megaproject, Matichon newspaper said today (Jan. 18).
During his last meeting of the day yesterday with Adani Group founder and chairman Mr. Gautam Adani the latter said he is interested in this megaproject to connect transportation from India to South Korea and Japan.
“Investment in the Land Bridge megaproject has received a lot of interest,” Srettha said.
Adani added that he will hold talks with those in charge to expand flight routes from India to Thailand thus increasing tourism in both countries.
Adani Group, headquartered in Ahmedabad, was founded by Gautam Adani in 1988 as a commodity trading business. The group’s businesses now include sea and airport management, electricity generation and transmission, mining, natural gas, food and infrastructure.More than 60 percent of the Adani Group’s revenue is derived from coal-related businesses, according to Wikipedia.
Srettha earlier said that projects under the Land Bridge megascheme in upper region of southern Thailand will start in 2025 and finish in 2030.
In linking the the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean, it will spare four days of travel between the two seas for cargo vessels and save an average 15% of maritime transport costs, compared to today’s sailing through the Malacca Strait in Singapore.
