PRIME MINISTER SRETTHA Thavisin today (Feb. 27) purchased an oil painting entitled “Peace” for 30,000 baht in cash from an artist in Pattani.
At a community market in the capital district of the southern province, the prime minister viewed and obviously admired the oil painting on display and bought it for 30,000 baht in cash out of his pocket from Sulaiman Yamo.
The oil painting depicts a Muslim boy pulling a lever to draw up water from an artesian well for a Buddhist monk to drink with his cupped hands.
Srettha remarked that he definitely appreciated the practical meaning of peaceful coexistence between people of different religions demonstrated by the southern artist who handed out a portrait of the prime minister as a souvenir to him in addition to the “Peace” painting.
At one instant, a local villager approached the prime minister at the market to ask him about the Pheu Thai-initiated digital wallet handout campaign but he only smiled and did not respond.
The prime minister and members of his cabinet are paying an official visit to a trio of southern border provinces earlier known as a turbulent Deep South, namely Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani, from today until Thursday.
