Thaksin going on political roadshow in Chiang Mai: Ex-MP

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

DE FACTO PHEU THAI BOSS-cum-convict on parole Thaksin Shinawatra is practically going on a “political roadshow’, albeit to a humble, limited extent, in Chiang Mai, alleged a former lawmaker today (Mar 9).

Former Democrat MP Thepthai Senapong posted on his Facebook page to allege Thaksin who was granted parole without an EM ankle bracelet last month of quietly orchestrating a “political roadshow” for himself during his brief visit to his northern home province from Mar. 14 till Mar. 16.

Thaksin will reportedly stay at a house in the premises of a golf course in Mae Rim district and travel to Mae On district to pay homage to a stupa with remains of his forebears.

The “political roadshow” is allegedly designed as part of an attempt to revive the fading popularity of the deposed prime minister and his party with an organised gathering of northern Red Shirt activists to welcome him to Chiang Mai, according to the ex-MP.

The Red Shirt movement had been earlier strongly associated with and supportive of the Pheu Thai for a decade and a half.

Chiang Mai had been earlier viewed as one of the Pheu Thai strongholds until last year’s election in which Thaksin’s camp lost seven out of a total of 10 constituencies to the Move Forward.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin is more or less speculated to personally meet with the de facto Pheu Thai boss-cum-convict on parole in Chiang Mai on Mar. 15, a partisan source said.

The former real estate mogul who had been quietly pushed to elected premiership by Thaksin’s sister/deposed prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra, is scheduled to visit Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Payao in company of his cabinet members from Mar. 15 till Mar. 17.

Srettha had earlier paid a personal visit to Thaksin at the latter’s Chan Song Lah residence on the Thonburi side of the capital as a second guest for the de facto Pheu Thai boss-cum-convict on parole closely following that of former Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen.
