Srettha impeachment hearing set for June 18

THE Constitutional Court studied a lawsuit filed by 40 senators seeking impeachment of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and ordered both sides to submit evidence on Monday June 17 with the hearing to take place the next day on June 18, Naewna newspaper said this afternoon (June 12).

In the impeachment case the prime minister has been accused of severely breaching the coup junta-designed constitution and code of political ethics by naming Pichit Chuenban, a former lawyer for de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra, a minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office in last April’s cabinet lineup.

The 40 senators who filed this lawsuit are allegedly loyal to Palang Pracharath leader Prawit Wongsuwan and former coup leader-turned-prime minister/now privy councillor Prayut Chan-o-cha.

The Constitutional Court had also ordered the Election Commission to submit additional evidence in today’s (June 12) hearing of the case the agency has filed seeking dissolution of the Move Forward Party.

The polling agency was ordered to submit the additional evidence on Monday June 17 with the next hearing scheduled for Tuesday June 18.
