BANGKOK’S Klong Tan police arrested three foreign men and two foreign women yesterday (July 14) on the charges of robbing a British cryptocurrency trader, Amarin TV said this afternoon.

Rounded up were Mr.Abdullahi Ahmed Saney Mohamed from Denmark, Ms. Shafiq Sumya from UK, Mr.Ahmed Saeed Yasin from UK, Mr.Hussein Mohamed Hassan Sheikh from UK and another foreign woman of unknown name and nationality.

Pol. Col.  Wachirakorn Wongboon, superintendent of Khlong Tan police station, said the unidentified victim met one of the gang members at an entertainment venue last Friday (July 12) and upon being invited to attend a birthday party at his apartment in Phra Khanong area agreed to do so, arriving at 4.50 a.m.

Once there the victim was tied up and taped, assaulted and given electric shocks, with all his belongings taken from him including cash, credit cards, mobile phones and a watch.

They forced him to send a text message to his Thai girlfriend that some people will be coming to their condo to take some belongings.

They used his keycard to enter his condo and took his computer and watch.

However while they had gone to his condo, the victim managed to free himself and escape. He then reported the crime to police who tracked down the gang via surveillance camera clips and were able to arrest all of them yesterday.

Seized from them were  two watches, cash, mobile phones and credit cards totaling over 3 million baht.

The suspects refused to give a statement to police saying they will only testify in court but this is their first trip to Thailand on tourist visa.

The victim is here on a student visa.

They have been charged with using weapons to commit robbery, jointly assaulting another person leading to physical and mental harm, jointly using weapons to extort valuables, taking other people’s documents and carrying weapons in public without reasonable cause to do so.
