TWO Chinese tourists heading for Pattaya were injured when their bus slammed into a six-wheel truck that had quickly changed lanes to avoid hitting a foreign motorcyclist who had swerved in front as they were all travelling on a Chonburi road late afternoon today (July 30), Amarin TV said this evening.
At 4.30 p.m. a team of policemen from Bang Lamung station together with rescuers from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation and ambulances rushed to bypass Road 36 (Krating Lai-Rayong) inbound to Pattaya where the accident took place.
At the scene they found the front of the white bus badly smashed with the driver, Mr. Saneydee, 44, injured. Rescuers quickly took him to Bang Lamung Hospital.
Within the damaged bus were 13 Chinese tourists who were in a state of shock after the accident. They were all helped out of the vehicle with two of them who had got injured taken to the hospital.
A second bus soon came and took the remaining tourists to their hotel in Pattaya.
Another foreigner, Mr. Marcus Benjamin, 42, with his nationality not stated, too had got injured and was taken to hospital with his damaged PAX black motorcycle lying on its side at the edge of the road.
The six-wheel truck, driven by Mr. Seksang Hannadong, 53, was only slightly damaged.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcyclist had swerved after moving out of the far left lane and got in front of the truck which was in the middle lane.
The truck driver in turn moved to the far right lane to avoid hitting the biker with his motorcycle then hitting the barrier in the middle of the road.
However, just then the tourist bus running on the far right lane slammed into the truck.
Police said they will be investigating this accident in detail again before proceeding with legal action.
