NO SALES VALUES OF merchandise traded under the Pheu Thai-initiated digital wallet project will be eventually accessed by the Revenue Department as widely feared by retailers and vendors anywhere, according to Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat.
The total sales values of goods to be sold by retailers and vendors ranging from small- to medium- and large-sized ones to eligible recipients to the 10,000-baht digital wallet project will definitely not be linked with the Revenue Department’s database, Julapun confirmed today (Aug 5).
The deputy finance minister was apparently responding to shared concerns among many small-sized vendors and retailers in all parts of the country over the personal income tax which the Revenue Department might otherwise collect from their sales profits under the Pheu Thai-initiated populist handout campaign.
The Ministry of Commerce will by no means feed the department with any trading figures under the 10,000-baht digital wallet project to be calculated as a basis for which the personal income tax might be otherwise collected accordingly, he said.
All retailers and vendors who may join the digital wallet project are yet to register online with the Ministry of Commerce.
Nearly 24 million Thai nationals aged 16 years and over have so far registered via Stateway App as recipients to the populist handout project with the deadline set for Sep. 15.
Julapun has earlier forecast an estimated 45 million Thai nationals and not as many as 50 millions, will eventually join in the project, scheduled to be effective within the fourth quarter of this year.
