AS THE House of Representatives elected de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra’s daughter/party leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra as Thailand’s 31st prime minister this morning (Aug. 16), there was excitement at a gathering of Red Shirts and party fan club in Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat), Amarin TV said.
Mr. Sompoch Panadhai, leader of the Red Shirts in the city district, and the others watching the telecast of the parliament session congratulated Paetongtarn after 319 MPs cast yea votes while 145 others cast nay votes and 27 abstained.
Somopch said he is very happy Paetongtarn was voted prime minister in line with the coalition government’s announcement that they would support her.
He is certain that as she is also from Pheu Thai Party she would seamlessly take the helm of the government and various policies of this camp, particularly its flagship 10,000 baht digital wallet scheme, would still be implemented.
As for Paetongtarn becoming the country’s youngest prime minister ever at the age of 37, Sompoch said this is a good development as the new generation with new vision should run the country.
Moreover as she is also Thaksin’s daughter it would boost confidence among the party’s MPs, he said, adding he is certain she would be able to handle the economy well.
