Myanmar workers protest over unpaid wages

OVER 700 Myanmar workers staged a protest in front of a factory they are constructing within Rojana Industrial Park Prachinburi after Chinese capitalists had not paid their wages for two months while forcing them to work everyday, Amarin TV said today (Aug. 17).

Police at Ro Bo Pai station, Si Maha Phot district, were alerted last evening that the 700 Myanmar construction workers were protesting because  they no longer had money to buy food and had been skipping meals for a long time after Chinese capitalists had not paid their wages for two months, totalling 10 million baht,

Despite wages not being paid they were still forced to work everyday.

After the first round negotiations the Chinese capitalists said they would initially pay the workers 500 baht each with the remainder coming next Wednesday.

However the workers refused to accept it and closed the entrances to the factory construction site, not allowing their Chinese bosses and foremen to leave but Thais were allowed to do so.

One of the Myanmar workers said he does not know what is going to happen but his colleagues do not accept the initial payment of 500 baht each and waiting till Wednesday for the rest of their wages.
