A YOUNG Belgian female tourist who went missing in northern Mae Hong Son’s Pai district yesterday (Sep. 6) was found drowned in a stream near Mae Hi weir after a major search for her was undertaken, Naewna newspaper said.
At around noon a woman’s clothes were found near Mae Hi weir, with the search team, comprising police, soldiers, officials and rescuers, then releasing all the water in the weir and found the body of tourist, identified as Ms. Cloe Ferari, 28, there.
An investigation is being undertaken while her body has been sent to Pai Hospital for an autopsy with the Belgian embassy too notified.
The search team suspects that she went swimming in the stream but a sudden gush of water caused her to drown.
Tourist Police received a request via social media to help find her after she rode off on her bicycle from her accommodation either the previous night or early in the morning without taking her bag and shoes.
Her bicycle was found abandoned near Mae Yen waterfall which is a popular tourist attraction in Pai district yesterday.
