POPULAR Thai actress Ms. Chalida Vijitvongthong’s younger brother refused to negotiate with a Russian man who had assaulted him after he stepped in to help a restaurant employee he was bashing up, Thai Rath newspaper said this evening (Sept. 30).
Mr. Rachai Vijitvongthong, 29, was kicked and punched by the unidentified deaf Russian man at a restaurant in Ratchadapisek Soi 3 at 2 a.m. last Wednesday (Sep. 25) after he tried to help an employee being beaten up. He submitted a medical certificate to Huai Khwang police station that he had to undergo medical treatment for three days to recover from the bruises he suffered.
Pol. Col. Prasopchok Aimpinij, head of Huai Khwang station, said as the Russian man is deaf a Russian sign language interpreter was required to communicate with him with one having been contacted and will be coming in tomorrow to help in the interrogation after which charges would be filed against him.
Initially the interpreter said the Russian man regretted his actions but when the police contacted the victim to negotiate and accept an apology, he refused.
The victim had firmly said that if the Russian man confessed tomorrow a lawsuit would be filed against him within 48 hours.
“As for entering and leaving the country, the investigators will report the case and the circumstances surrounding it to the Immigration Bureau. It is within the authority and discretion of the Immigration Bureau to consider allowing a person to enter or leave the country
“This is the legal process, should a lawsuit be filed in court, and upon its completion this person is sentenced to jail, he will have to serve his sentence first after which we will consider sending him back to his country,” Pol. Col. Prasopchok said.
