THE Office of Basic Education said today (Oct. 3) it has been confirmed gas leaked at the front of the bus that caught fire killing 23 schoolchildren and teachers while travelling on a field trip last Monday, Naewna newspaper said.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwpaen, the head of the commission, however said it has not been as yet ascertained what caused the gas leak and spark the fire.
Even so there are two assumptions but these cannot be revealed as yet with investigation of the vehicle’s control system and deterioration of gas pipes continuing amid certainty that there was gas as fuel for the bus to burn so quickly.
While gas system experts should be invited to brief forensic officers and help carry out in-depth investigation based on forensic science principles it has already been determined that more gas tanks than permitted had been installed.
This is clear evidence that an offence had been committed, he added.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong thanked all relevant officials who quickly helped identify the victims and were able to return their bodies to their hometown quickly.
