Debts likely led to woman killing family, herself

THE shooting deaths of a family of four in Songkhla this evening (Oct. 7) likely stemmed from the wife facing debt problems, Amarin TV said.

Pol. Col. Banthoeng Laocharoen, chief of Songkhla city police station, said Mr. Chaichan (surname withheld), a former Songkhla councillor, his wife Mrs. Natthaphat and two children were all found shot dead at their house in this southern city after police went to investigate upon getting a call on 191 to do so.

Upon entering they found the bodies of the husband and son lying dead downstairs while the bodies of the daughter and wife were found upstairs with the latter still holding a 9mm pistol in her hand, indicating that she was the perpetrator.

Currently Forensic Science Centre officials are performing autopsies.

While police are examining a footage from a surveillance camera at the entrance of the house to assess the overall picture of what happened, relatives told police that the cause was likely debt problems Natthaphat was facing because she had called her sister and related this to her.

Nattaphat, who previously worked at Songkhla municipality but resigned to become a housewife,  was also taking some medication and it is being checked what it was.

In addition Chaichan had three to four licenced pistols in his possession.
