THE ARMY AND NAVY were today (Oct. 12) repeatedly called on to stop deducting more than 30% of the salary of low-ranking servicemen to repay part of their debt owed to army or navy savings cooperatives.
House Armed Services Committee Chair Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn, a People’s Party MP, said it is time the army and navy unconditionally followed a cabinet resolution primarily designed to alleviate the increased costs of living of non-commissioned officers and enlisted soldiers by no longer deducting more than 30% of their monthly salary to partially repay debt, currently owed to any army or navy savings cooperatives nationwide.
Those non-commissioned officers and enlisted men who may have borrowed money from the army or navy savings cooperatives would embarrassedly view their superiors, being generals, colonels or admirals and captains, who may have pooled up funds for their cooperatives as if they were not only their commanders but creditors simultaneously, Wiroj said.
Though the regular funding for those army and navy savings cooperatives may not have been withdrawn from a government budget, the army generals and navy admirals were definitely recommended to stop doing such a profiteering business at the expense of their subordinates’ well-being, the People’s MP said.
Only the air force savings cooperatives have reportedly complied with the relevant cabinet resolution for the sake of those low-ranking military personnel whilst the army and navy savings cooperatives have not yet followed suit, according to the House Armed Services Committee chair.
