FORMER POLICE chief Pol. Gen. Sereepisuth Temeeyaves, who is head of the one-MP Thai Liberal Party, said after meeting the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) that de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra being admitted to the 14th floor of the Police Hospital right away without a check-up at the intensive care unit (ICU) shows he was not a in critical condition, Naewna newspaper said this afternoon (Jan. 27).
Upon reconfirming his earlier testimony to the anti-graft agency he was invited by the officials to join them in checking the 14th floor suite at Police Hospital where Thaksin stayed for six months after being rushed there just a few hours after entering the prison because of critical illnesses until he was released on parole early last year.
Thaksin who had spent 17 years as a globetrotter in self-exile until he returned home in August 2023 had been previously found guilty of power abuse charges and sentenced in absentia to eight years in jail which had been curtailed by royal pardon to only one year.
Sereepisuth pointed out that doctors could not just send him straight to the 14th floor suite after reaching the hospital as this floor is for patients who have left the ICU and started recovering from critical illnesses.
A neurologist, a cardiologist and a pulmonologist would have to come in and examine him to ascertain his condition and he would have to stay at the ICU for quite some time not go straight to the 14th floor suite.
“I will give an example of me being sick and hospitalised for more than 20 days. My muscle mass would have deteriorated because if we don’t walk around for seven or 10 days, our muscles are in bad condition. The doctor has to make sure I walk to restore my muscle mass. When I return home, I have to exercise,” he said.
Sereepisuth added he accepted the anti-graft officials’ invitation to joining them in visiting the 14th floor Police Hospital suite because he wants justice done. They are now waiting for an appointment to do so.
Even though a lot of time has passed, he insisted that nothing had changed on this floor with the suites still remaining in the same condition.
He added that the suspects could be jailed.
He also suggested that as the Corrections Department had allowed 10 family members to visit Thaksin the anti-graft agency should call all of them including his daughter/Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra for questioning on his condition to find out if they lie.
Evidence will be gathered from all possible sources but it is uncertain if those invited for questioning will give any information.
