Trio of woman candidates vie against one another for Nayok Or Bor Jor

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

A TRIO OF WOMEN have been intensely contesting against one another in the upcoming Saturday’s election for Nayok Or Bor Jor or head of provincial administration of Samut Songkhram.

In addition to the three woman contestants, a trio of men are also vying for Nayok Or Bor Jor of Samut Songkhram but either one of the females have appeared to be more likely to win than the males running in the country’s smallest province, barely 60 km southwest of the Thai capital.

Given the fact that People’s MP Anupap Likhit-amnuaychai is the only elected lawmaker currently representing constituents of the tiny, coastal province at parliament, Nantiya Likhit-amnuaychai, the MP’s sister, is fiercely contesting under the tickets of the reformist party and has so far emerged as more likely than all other contenders to be voted Nayok Or Bor Jor on the upcoming Saturday.

Nantiya’s most challenging rival is Kansuda Panasutha, a former head of provincial administration of Samut Songkhram, who is seeking re-election after she has administered the tiny, three-district province during a previous four-year term from 2020 until 2024.

The other female contender, namely Sukanya Saovasarn, spouse of Pisit Suasaming, a former Nayok Or Bor Jor, is ardently vying with herself being a former provincial councillor.

Compared to the Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai, the largest and second-largest coalition partners respectively, which have sent partisan candidates running for Nayok Or Bor Jor in most of a total of 47 provinces, the People’s, a resurrection of the court-dissolved Future Forward and Move Forward, is forecast to win in no more than seven out of 17 arenas where the reformist party has been competing.

In Nakhon Nayok, Jakapan Jintanapakanond, the People’s contestant for head of provincial administration has appeared to be the favourite to win after he himself has worked as Nayok Or Bor Jor during a previous four-year term.

Jakapan, a nephew of former MPs of Nakhon Nayok, namely Sitthichai Kittithanesuan and Wuthichai Kittithanesuan, is vying against four non-partisan candidates who are relatively not so popular throughout the tiny, central province.

In Trat, Chonlathi Noomnoo, the People’s candidate vying for head of provincial administration, has appeared as the most favourite to be voted Nayok Or Bor Jor in Saturday’s election.

Chonlathi is not only personally accredited by Trat constituents as a hard-working official of the Department of Agriculture with expertise in durian genus development but is a brother of People’s MP Sakdinai Noomnoo.

His archrival is Wichian Sapcharoen, an independent candidate who is a former Nayok Or Bor Jor of the eastern seaboard province.

Nevertheless, Saturday’s election for head of provincial administration of Chiang Mai has undoubtedly become the most challenging to the People’s, given the fact that de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra is native of the northern province.

Pan-ad Chairat, the People’s contestant, is running against Pichai Lertpong-adisorn of the Pheu Thai and Panom Sripuad, a former army general and non-partisan contender.

Thaksin, father of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, would almost certainly lose face and be ridiculed by his critics if the Pheu Thai contestant is defeated by the People’s contender in the provincial election.

The billionaire power player could possibly lick his wounds again after his ruling party has been surprisingly defeated in 2023’s general election for MP in his home province by the then-Move Forward.

Of a total of 10 MP seats for Chiang Mai, the reformist  party won seven, leaving only two seats to Thaksin’s populist camp and the other to the Palang Pracharath.
