THIS MONTH’S Full Moon Party at Koh Phangan is taking place tonight (March 13-14, Moon rise 6.35 p.m.) and promises to be another memorable fun event with lots of tourists having headed there from Lomprayah High Speed Ferries Co., Ltd.’s pier at Koh Samui, Naewna newspaper said.
Most of the tourists were young foreigners who lined up to board this company’s ferries to the nearby island.
Making tonight’s party even more enthralling is that a Total Lunar Eclipse is taking place with the Moon appearing to turn red as it passes the Earth’s shadow. This will occur tonight or early tomorrow, depending on the time zone.
Regions seeing, at least, some parts of the eclipse: Europe, much of Asia, much of Australia, much of Africa, North America, South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic and Antarctica.
Organisers said that each month’s Full Moon Party at Koh Phangan draws tourists from across the world to enjoy music under the glow of the Full Moon. Hoteliers and other business operators benefit from large amounts of cash circulating on that day.
In terms of safety, Mr. Adul Raluekmoon, director of the Koh Samui Regional Harbour Office, ordered all officials to strictly inspect the safety of all types of passenger boats transporting tourists from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan and back, and inspect the condition of all piers.
Mr. Korn Pia-Kao, assistant chairman of Lomprayah High Speed Ferries Co., Ltd., said that from January this year to March, it was found that the number of passengers, most of whom were foreigners, was higher than last year.
After Covid-19 pandemic ended, Koh Phangan has become very popular again, especially with young tourists, including working-age people.
Previously each Full Moon Party attracted only around 10,000 tourists.
