A YOUNG British woman is missing after the dive boat she was sailing in together with 15 other tourists caught fire as it was heading for a dive site around five nautical miles from Koh Tao, Surat Thani province, today (March 16), TV Channel 7 and Amarin TV said.
The boat, named Davy Jones Locker, was carrying 22 people and aside from the 16 tourists there were two diving instructors, two assistant diving instructors and two crewmen.
After the fire broke out someone from the boat jumped into the sea and floated whle another boat nearby came to help the victims.
The missing British woman was identified as Ms. Alexandra May Clarke, 27.
Surat Thani Marine Department sent in a team to put out the fire and after doing so found that the engine room, the captain’s room, and the bathroom at the back were damaged.
Koh Phangan Regional Harbour Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
