PM furious over alleged deal for Shinawatra family

PRIME MINISTER Paetongtarn Shinawatra snapped at reporters today (March 20) when questioned about the no-confidence debate, set for Monday-Tuesday March 24-25, with the opposition’s theme allegedly being “a country deal” for Shinawatra family, pointing out that everything must be done with reason, not emotion, Amarin TV said.

Paetongtarn has become the sole target of this censure debate amid allegations that she is virtually merely a “puppet” pulled by her father/de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra.

On being asked whether the opposition’s “a country deal” theme is true,  Paetongtarn countered by asking what is the country being exchanged for and that nothing like this is taking place.

“If you ask whether it’s true or not, there is none of this, who could go exchange the country,” she said.

When asked again that a deal is allegedly the exchange of benefits for the Shinawatra and for former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra to return to the country, the Prime Minister again countered by asking what would the Shinawatra family get by this?

On reporters further pointing out that her father/de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin had  returned to the country, Paetongtarn said the focus is always on this and it is not true that everything that happened had to be a deal, with reason should be used not emotion.

On whether the coalition parties would  vote to support her, the Prime Minister said that they had said that they would do so but it has to be seen whether or not they really do so.

In this censure debate the opposition is getting 28 hours, the cabinet and coalition parties seven hours and the meeting chairman two hours. The debate will start at 8 a.m. on Monday could last till 11.30 p.m. on Tuesday with the vote to be cast on Wednesday.

On being asked if she would still be attending the debate if it stretches till 5 a.m. on the first day, she laughed and replied that it will certainly not linger that long because she would have to return home to sleep and prepare for the next day. Besides, other ministers too will be taking turns in the debate.
