THE THAI Meteorological Department’s Earthquake Watch Division said a minor earthquake of 2.8 magnitude jolted Mae Hong Son province at 7.56 a.m. today (Apr. 18) but there was no damage while there have been almost 600 aftershocks since the massive quake in Myanmar on March 28, Amarin TV said.
This morning’s quake, at a depth of 1 kilometre, was epicentred at this northern province’s city district.
Meanwhile at 1.12 a.m. a micro quake, measuring 1.4 on the Richter scale and at a depth of 5km, occurred at Sop Prap district of Lampang province but this too did not cause any damage.
The Earthquake Watch Division said there have been almost 600 aftershocks since the huge earthquake on March 28 with the latest one, at 3.9 magnitude and 10km depth, rocking Myanmar at 9.30 a.m. approximately 144km from Mae Hong Son.
At 9.40 a.m. a 3.6 magnitude quake with a depth of 10km shook Laos, approximately 225km from Chiang Rai.
