A TRIO OF ENGLISH football clubs are vying to sign Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy for next season following relegation of the Foxes from the Premier League in the current season.
Wolverhampton Wanderers, a club in the top tier of the English football system, Wrexham, a newly-promoted Championship side, and Sheffield Wednesday, another side in the second tier of the English football system, are quietly contesting to sign the Foxes’ 38-year-old striker who is reportedly seeking a certain club where he may retire from his internationally-renowned, highly-paid career probably upon the end of next season.
After playing for Leicester for a record period of 13 years, Vardy is highly expected to depart from King Power stadium upon the end of current season later this month, leaving their Thai owner Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha and sporting director Jon Rudkin the chores of not only finding a talented striker as his replacement but replacing current manager Ruud van Nistelrooy who had seen his side relegated twice in three seasons.
Apart from the Wolves who have barely survived on top flight this season, Wrexham, the Welsh side automatically promoted from the third-tiered League 1 to the second-tiered Championship, are coming up as an alternative for the striker who is likely to part company with Aiyawatt.
But speculation on social media remains relatively widespread and rampant that Vardy would probably opt out of playing for Sheffield Wednesday, another Championship side where uncertainties pertaining to Owls fans’ openly-expressed discontent with Thai owner Dejpon Chansiri and his cash flow issues have yet remained unsolved whilst the question of whether Owls manager Danny Rohl will stay or leave for next season is up to anyone’s guess.
Sheffield Wednesday’s only advantage over the Wolves and Wrexham simply refers to the fact that Vardy was born and bred in the South Yorkshire city and recruited to join the Owls’ academy youth until he left for a few non-league sides and finally kicked his way to fame in the Foxes’ blue shirt.
Vardy who has so far scored 198 goals for Leicester in all matches since he was signed at King Power stadium in 2012 and played his attacking part to land the Foxes the Premier League champions title in 2015/2016 season will be unquestionably regarded as a top-rated Most Valuable Player among all the Foxes players.
