Quake-hit condo juristic person committee quits in row with unit owners

THE entire juristic person committee of a 900-unit condominium in Chokchai Ruammit area where a large number of residents still cannot move back to their homes two months after the March 28 earthquake resigned after fierce arguments broke out during a meeting yesterday (May 27), TV Channel 7 said.

Both sides threatened to sue each other after residents demanded some progress in urgent repairs including the elevator system, electricity and tap water supply, because more than half of the residents have not been able to move back two months after the quake.

This TV Channel’s news team went to inspect the condominium with one of the team members being among those affected as he has a unit on the 16th floor of this building and has to climb up and down the stairs every day because the four elevators are not working.

Other residents too, including children and the elderly, have to climb these stairs until they are out of breath.

The unit owners said most of them were concerned that the common area money they paid may not be enough and if so they were willing to pay more as long as a large number of them could return to live in their condos.

For the sake of fairness, this news team called the former juristic person manager who said he is now only in an acting capacity but admitted that part of the problem was due to limited budget because the common area fee is low.

The urgent repairs required a large budget which led to conflicts with the residents after which the whole juristic person team resigned. Meanwhile the condo insurance is about to expire.

At the same time a new LINE group has been formed by “The Founder of the Page Chanatat Lui Khrap” to act as a mediator.

A team was set up to coordinate with the Metropolitan Electricity Authority to test the power supply system and proceed with repairing two out of four elevators.

After that a new juristic person committee will be elected to solve remaining problems and take care of the residents.
