THE POWERS-THAT-BE have ultimately found Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra performing so poorly that such an unqualified, incompetent head of government should be replaced in foreseeable future, according to a noted academic.
Virtually viewed as a “puppet” pulled around behind the scenes by her father/de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra, the woman prime minister has already been deemed by the powers-that-be too unqualified, unfit and incompetent to continue to run the country and that she should be replaced by somebody else, commented Pornchai Theppanya, a former dean of Ramkhamhaeng University’s Political Science Faculty.
However, Pornchai stopped short of suggesting who should be considered relatively qualified and competent to replace Thaksin’s daughter who was named prime minister over the last nine months in place of the then-Pheu Thai-attached Srettha Thavisin.
“Those who had brought Thaksin back home have been dissatisfied with Paetongtarn’s performance and ultimately preferred that the head of government be changed sooner than later,” Pornchai concluded without naming any names other than Thaksin’s “puppet” prime minister.
Thaksin had allegedly struck a “secret deal” with the powers-that-be to the extent that he returned from self-exile abroad in 2023 without being subsequently put behind bars to otherwise serve a curtailed, one-year jail sentence.
Nevertheless, not only the de facto Pheu Thai boss but the super elite, powers-that-be would ultimately disagree to the whims of the prime minister dissolving the House of Representatives to call a general election at any given time, according to the ex-Ramkhamhaeng dean.
Neither would the powers-that-be eventually allow the de facto Pheu Thai boss to manage to expel the ultra-conservative Bhumjaithai under de facto party boss Newin Chidchob from the Pheu Thai-led government under excuses of unresolved conflict of interest between the core of the current coalition and second largest coalition partner respectively, Pornchai said.
Instead, Thaksin might probably be pressed to see to it that his “puppet” prime minister steps down whilst he himself is yet looking for ways and means to survive over his multiple legal battles in court.
Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul who concurrently acts only in name as leader of Newin’s camp is among partisan candidates vying for prime minister in the 2023 general election.
