THE THAI Meteorological Department’s Earthquake Watch Division issued an alert that almost 10 earthquakes rocked Myanmar today (July 18) with the latest one, measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale and occurring at 4.30 p.m. Thai time, being felt in Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai, Amarin TV said.
The epicentre of this last earthquake, at a depth of 10km, was approximately 417km northwest of Mae Hong Son’s Pang Mapha district with tremors felt in some areas of Chiang Mai.
Earlier at 2.09 p.m. a magnitude 4.2 quake at a depth of 10 kilometers shook Myanmar with the epicentre being approximately 200km northwest of Mae Hong Son’s city district.
The weather bureau also warned that many parts of Thailand will be hit by heavy to very heavy rain with strong waves in the Andaman Sea during July 19-24.
Bring torrential rain to the North, Northeast, Central, East and Western Coast of the South during the next few days is a monsoon trough passing through the upper North, upper Laos and upper Vietnam, along with the southwesterly monsoon blowing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand, which is quite strong.
Moreover, Tropical Storm Wipha currently in the eastern part of the Philippines is expected to move through the upper part of this country then into upper South China Sea during July 19-21, 2025.
