JUST HOURS after Cambodia asked for an immediate ceasefire following a closed-door Security Council meeting with Thailand agreeing to talks, possibly aided by Malaysia, a skirmish erupted in Trat province early this morning (July 26) with Thai Marines successfully repelling the attacking Khmer troops from Thai territory, Naewna newspaper said.
Trat provincial security unit said at 7.30 a.m. that Cambodian soldiers encroached on Thai territory at three points in Ban Chamrak at 5.10 a.m. and opened fire at Thai troops.
The Marines then launched “Trat Destroys Enemies 1” operation and succeeded in controlling the entire area by pushing Cambodian troops out with there being no deaths or injuries.
Around 75% of the residents at Trat’s Klong Yai district have already evacuated to safety in the city district during the past two days of fighting along the border (July 24-25).
