MYANMAR military bombed buildings within the notorious KK Park scam compound at Myawaddy township, Kayin state, for the second day yesterday (Oct. 24) with sounds of explosions reverberating throughout the Thai Mae Sot town, just across from Moei river, TV Channel 7 said this morning.
This second, more powerful bombing of the scam hub led to residents of Mae Ku Mai Tha Sung village, Mae Ku subdistrict, panicking as they could also see flashes of the blasts across the river.
Facebook user Natty Loves Myanmar, who shared photos and a video of the bombing, claimed that Myanmar soldiers used drones to bomb KK Park with the second round being much more powerful and the blasts felt as far away as Mae Sot.
As of 4 p.m. yesterday, a total of 1,198 people had fled KK Park and crossed over to Thailand, with 1,044 being men and 154 women.
Indians were the biggest group totalling 437 (413 men and 24 women) followed by Chinese, 165 and Vietnamese, 132. The number of people from Africa, particularly Ethiopia, has increased continuously, reaching over 200.
Meanwhile SpaceX earlier announced it has disconnected its Starlink satellite Internet service to over 2,500 devices suspected of being misused at scam centres near the Myanmar border.
This move follows an AFP report that said the use of satellite Internet devices has significantly expanded in these scam hubs. The Myanmar military had seized 30 of these sets and released more than 2,000 workers trapped there on Monday (Oct. 20).
