THE annual Halloween event at Khao San road was relatively quiet this year with organisers having toned down planned activities as the country mourns the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother while intermittent rain also affected the atmosphere, Amarin TV said this evening (Oct. 31).
The Khao San Road Business Association in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Phra Nakhon District Office, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Chana Songkram police station, and supporters from both the public and private sectors, had jointly organised this event to attract both Thai and international tourists for a memorable experience.
While both local and foreign tourists did show, dressed in various ghost costumes, the event was not as lively as expected.
The organisers had adjusted the activities, reducing the size of the opening parade and cutting out excessive entertainment while maintaining the original lineup. Participants also observed a moment of silence to express their condolences.
Mr. Sanga Ruangwattanakul, president of the Khaosan Road Business Association, told reporters that this year’s Khaosan Halloween event is different from previous years.
The organisers expressed their deepest condolences on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother and toned down the format while maintaining the creative and cultural atmosphere of Halloween with a smaller parade and no excessively festive music.
Amid the quieter atmosphere this year, accommodation bookings have been impressive, reaching last year’s totals.
Among the fun activities are a ghost photo booth and a content creation corner for both Thai and international tourists. The festival’s highlight is an influencer costume contest.
There are numerous prizes with there also being souvenirs and free ghost makeup service for participants.
