THAILAND and Cambodia have reached an agreement on building an eight-kilometre-long border wall at Chanthaburi and Trat provinces with the two countries’ chairpersons of Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) having approved and signed a Technical Instruction (TI) for its construction, Amarin TV said this afternoon (Nov. 8).
The area where this wall is going to be built is under the supervision of Chanthaburi Marine Corps Task Force, which is part of Chanthaburi and Trat Border Defence Command (CBT).
Under this Technical Instruction, with Mr. Prasarn Prasarnwinitchai signing for Thailand, teams from the two countries will now proceed to the third phase on surveying and installing temporary boundary markers along the stretch where previously installed markers from 52 to 59 stand with this being checked during the first two phases.
Last Tuesday (Nov. 4) the joint Thai-Cambodian border survey and demarcation team, led by Col. Yutthaphon Sucharit, the Thai field commander, and Mr. Promseun Wattana, the Cambodian field commander, discussed technical recommendations for surveying and putting temporary markers at this stretch with both sides signing the recommendations.
Also attending this meeting at Chong Dong permanent border checkpoint in Kom Riang district, Battambang province, Cambodia, were Capt. Prachya Hanthiam, commander of the Chanthaburi Marine Task Force, Capt. Than Thongrabkaew, deputy commander of this task force, Capt. Wirachet Khayantham, head of the 2nd Marine Task Force, and Mr. Sittinon Chianchirasakul, headman of Thepnimit subdistrict.
The budget for construction of this border wall has been secured, including the Hathai Thip Fund under the Chulabhorn Foundation of Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana.
