A PHEU THAI party-list MP lamented the Supreme Court having ordered de facto party boss-turned-inmate Thaksin Shinawatra to pay back taxes totalling 17.6 billion baht over the sale of his telecoms firm, Amarin TV said today (Nov. 18).
The MP, Mr. Korkaew Phikunthong, said in a Facebook post that what has happened to Thaksin is unacceptable as he was compelled to go into exile for 17 years even though he had contributed so much to the country
He also expressed pity for Thailand and asked, “Is it enough yet?
“The Supreme Court sentenced him to another year in prison, without deducting any of the days he spent in the Police Hospital.
“The prosecutors appealed the lese majeste case, even though the working group headed by the current Attorney General voted 8 to 2 not to appeal, and thus voided his right to a suspended sentence.
“The Supreme Court ruled in favour of the Revenue Department collecting 17.6 billion baht in taxes on the sale of Shin Corp. shares, even though the lower tax court and Appellate Court had already ordered revocation of the assessment, as it had previously, in late February 2010, confiscated 46 billion baht at Supreme Court’s order.
“The actions against Thaksin are seen as a series of elaborate plots, deeply contrary to the feelings and emotions of the general public. They push out those who could greatly contribute to the country, send them abroad, and imprison them. Then, they bring in a bunch of idiots to run the country.
“It’s no wonder the country has been steadily deteriorating, with national and household debts soaring sky high. The majority of Thais have almost no hope for this country anymore.
“Feel sorry for Thailand, is this enough?”
