Anutin II cabinet formally okayed by King

A BHUMJAITHAI-LED cabinet of ministers under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has been formally approved by His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn.

The Anutin II cabinet lineup, published in the Royal Gazette today (March 31), consists of 35 persons including the re-elected head of government who takes charge of the interior portfolio in concurrent fashion. The post-election cabinet is headed by the prime minister-cum-interior minister who also acts as leader of the Bhumjaithai, currently core of the coalition government allegedly steered by de facto party boss Newin Chidchob. Named deputy interior ministers were Polpee Suwanchawee, Jaiset Thaiset and Worasit Liangprasit, all attached to Newin’s camp.

Seven persons attached to varied coalition partners were named deputy prime ministers some of whom assume portfolios in concurrent fashion, including Pipat Ratchakitprakarn in charge of the transport portfolio, Ekniti Nitithanprapat in charge of the finance portfolio, Supajee Suthumpun in charge of the commerce portfolio, Sihasak Puangketkaew in charge of the foreign affairs portfolio, Yodchanan Wongsawat in charge of the higher education, science, research & innovation portfolio, Pakorn Nilprapan in charge of legal affairs and Songsak Thongsri for yet-unspecified affairs. Yodchanan, one of a trio of Pheu Thai contestants for prime minister in last month’s general election, is a nephew of de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra.

Taking charge of the agriculture & cooperatives portfolio is former Pheu Thai electoral campaign director Suriya Juangroongruangkit who is assisted by a couple of deputy agriculture & cooperatives ministers namely Watcharapol Khaokham and Piyarat Tiyapairat.

Assisting Pipat in running the transport portfolio are a trio of deputy transport ministers namely Siripong Angkhasakulkiat, Patrapong Patraprasit and Sanpet Boonyamanee, all attached to Newin’s camp.

Taking charge of the digital economy & society portfolio is Newin’s son/Bhumjaithai secretary-general Chaichanok Chidchob who is assisted by Nan Boontida Somchai as deputy digital economy & society minister, both attached to Newin’s camp, whilst Prasert Chanthararuangthong takes charge of the education portfolio and is assisted by Akhranan Kankittinan as deputy education minister, both attached to Thaksin’s camp.

Pheu Thai leader Sompong Amornvivat was named labour minister whilst Bhumjaithai-attached Sabida Thaiset was named culture minister and former Chart Thai Pattana leader Varawut Silpa-archa and Pattana Prompat were named industry minister and public health minister under the Bhumjaithai quota respectively.

Taking charge of the energy portfolio is Ekanat Prompan and running the natural resources & environment portfolio is Suchart Chomklin, both attached to Newin’s camp.

Adul Boonthamcharoen and Ruthapol Naovarat and Surasak Pancharoenworakul were named defence minister, justice minister and tourism & sports minister under the quota of Newin’s camp respectively whilst Pheu Thai-attached Nikorn Somklang was named social development & human security minister.

Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office were four ministers namely Paradorn Prisnanuntakul, Napintorn Srisanpang, Supamat Isarapakdee and Suksomruay Wanthaneeyakul, all attached to Newin’s camp.
