DE FACTO PHEU THAI boss Thaksin Shinawatra who has been recently released on parole is anticipated to resume his role in public as a sensational, straightforward critic over political, economic and international issues sooner than later without himself waiting to be formally freed from his one-year jail sentence in the next four months, according to a partisan source.
Thaksin who is not only viewed as de facto boss of the second largest partner in the Bhumjaithai-led coalition government but a former head of government would likely be invited in near future to publicly deliver a keynote speech with his spectacular, contentious comments on a variety of current topics ranging from current world affairs and Thailand’s political situation to the highly questionable 400 billion baht borrowed funding scheme put forward by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who concurrently acts as leader of the Bhumjaithai, core of the current coalition partners surreptitiously steered by de facto party boss Newin Chidchob.
Thaksin who has been literally put behind bars for an eight-month period at Klong Prem prison and released on parole with an EM ankle bracelet until he is scheduled to be formally freed in the upcoming September would not personally give up on his sustained efforts to take part in the running of the country whilst his now-medium-sized party remain part of the coalition government, according to the partisan source who only spoke on condition of anonymity.
Upon being released on parole on Monday, the de facto Pheu Thai boss told reporters with a smirk on his face that he has just “hibernated” behind bars and even put it tongue-in-cheek that he has had Alzheimer.
But he is more or less expected to return to the political limelight well before he is formally declared a free man with the one-year jail term behind him in the next four months.
“Thaksin could not keep himself in silence very long and would not wait until September 9 for that. He would undoubtedly unleash his usual comments at a public venue somewhere sooner than later,” the partisan source said, referring to the date for his complete freedom from imprisonment.
Nevertheless, the de facto Pheu Thai boss would likely take a cautionary, self-guarded stand on his own when he makes his comments about any topics in public because his word could probably jeopardize his position over unsettled legal battles pertaining to the disreputable phenomenon in which he had allegedly feigned himself as a “critically ill” patient to spend a privileged, six-month period at Police Hospital in lieu of a prison, thus involving himself in the fake-out saga as well as landing several senior government officials involved in his contentious stay at the hospital charges of conspiring to perpetrate misconduct with the case to be forwarded to court by the National Anti-Corruption Commission and a sustained lawsuit over his alleged breach to the lese majeste law, also known as the draconian Section 112 of the Criminal Code, which the Office of the Attorney-General has appealed to court, plus a 17 billion baht in overdue payment for his income tax.
The prime minister who has earlier confirmed that he will pay a personal visit to his predecessor with the venue being expected at the latter’s Chan Song Lah residence in Bangkok albeit without a schedule of visit as yet would likely be intermittently mentioned and probably be taken to task by Thaksin when he unleashes his criticism of the Bhumjaithai-led government’s handling of varied political and economic issues.
Both Newin and Anutin used to work for Thaksin and earlier performed as cabinet members under previous Pheu Thai-led governments either during or after the times of the de facto Pheu Thai boss as head of government over the last couple of decades.
